Admissions
Thank you for considering our warm and friendly school for your child - at Mary Dean's CE Primary School we strive to make everyone feel special and offer a great place to work, learn and play.
Our children try hard to look smart, behave well and to do their best in all areas of their learning. I am delighted to say they make a great success of this and achieve high standards in all areas.
The children benefit from a super team of dedicated teachers and support staff who endeavour to make every day a good day and ensure that each child achieves their God-given potential.
Sport has a high profile at Mary Dean’s. We are regularly involved in lots of competitions with other schools and aim to offer a wide range of opportunities for all age groups. Other talents are developed through our active choir and instrumental group who perform for the school and the local community. We also hold school productions and class assemblies to which parents are warmly invited.
We run a wide range of clubs at lunchtimes and there is a selection of after-school activities. Our Breakfast Club ensures a good start to the day for lots of children and we also have a thriving After School Club open every school day until 6pm.
This is a lovely school in a beautiful village and I hope you have been encouraged to find out more and become a part of our school community. Please see the documents below to help you apply for a place.

The Admissions Appeals Timetable 2024
Appeals at the normal round of admissions will be heard within 40 school days of the deadline for lodging appeals on 31 May 2024. Where the application was not made in time for a decision to be made on 16 April 2024, they will be heard within that 40-day period or, if that is not possible, within 30 days of the appeal being lodged. In-year admission appeals must be heard within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged.
Is your child due to start secondary school next year – September 2025?
If your child was born between 1 September 2013 and 31 August 2012 and are in Year 6, they will be eligible to apply for a secondary school place later this year.
All the information you will need about secondary school admissions is on the Plymouth City Council website: www.plymouth.gov.uk/schooladmissions. From here, you can apply online for school places and read the ‘Plymouth Parent’s Guide’ which contains all admission policies and application forms.
Applying online is quick and easy - all you need is an email address. Once you apply online we will let you know which school your child has been allocated on Friday 1 March 2025.
Remember:
- All Plymouth’s 18 secondary schools hold ‘open events’ for families to visit the school and speak to staff. Please refer to the individual schools websites for dates and further information.
- If you are applying for a place at a faith school on faith grounds, you must also fill out a supplementary form, which you can obtain from our website or from the school.
- Some schools give priority to children of members of staff and will ask for submission of a supplementary form as proof.
- Please read the admission policy for each school carefully.
The deadline to apply will be announced later in the year. Visit www.plymouth.gov.uk/schooladmissions for more information.
